10 – NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (2007)
There are several similarities between No Country for Old Men and the story initiated by the manuscript read by Adams in Nocturnal Animals. It is not only to be found in that which meets the eyes, quite literally, as both take place in Texas, which cinematically entails a specific colour palette and art direction. It is more than the suspense of both films and even more than drawing parallels between Michael Shannon’s role and Tommy Lee Jones’. It is also that both films, in their own way, deal with some of the same topics and namely that universal one of fate, conscience and consequence.
