Donnie Darko back in UK cinemas with a new 4K restoration

To celebrate the BFI’s restoration of Donnie Darko, the film will be returning to cinemas across the United Kingdom.

Richard Kelly’s film was first released 15 years ago, in 2001 and was initially underappreciated before quickly gaining cult status and critical praise.

Donnie Darko is set in 1988, and revolves around the titular troubled teenager, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and his encounter with a strange man in a monstrous rabbit suit who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours and 12 seconds. The film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary McDonnell and Patrick Swayze.

Here’s the official new trailer for the Donnie Darko rerelease.
