May 2017: 10 new movie releases you need to know about

So many films, so little time. CineCola highlights a number of UK (and, possibly, Ireland) theatrical releases for the month of May.

1 – THE JOURNEY (Nick Hamm, UK)
Release date: May 5 (limited, 25+)

The Journey, directed by Nick Hamm, charts a fictional meeting between adversarial Northern Ireland politicians Ian Paisley, leaders of the Democratic Unionist Party, and Sinn Fein’s recently deceased Martin McGuinness. The deep friendship that developed between the two clashing figures enabled the Northern Ireland pease process. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and screened in Toronto shortly thereafter. It has received positive reviews with particular praise for its two lead actors Timothy Spall, in the role of Paisley, and Colm Meaney, as McGuinness.
