Sundance Film Festival: London announces 2017 programme

The full program of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival: London was announced today. The festival will take place at Picture House Central in London, United Kingdom, on June 1-4, 2017. It will present 14 feature films direct from this year’s Sunday Film Festival in Park City, Utah, USA. They were selected by the Sundance Institute programming team in collaboration with Picturehouse.

The festival will open with the International premiere of Miguel Arteta’s Beatriz at Dinner and close four days later with the U.K. premiere of David Lowery’s A Ghost Story, which stars Casey Affleck, fresh off his Academy Award win for Best Actor for his role in the movie Manchester By the Sea.

On top of the feature film selection, Sundance Film Festival: London will include a short film programme with 15 shorts, including a strand dedicated exclusively to new UK shorts. For the first time ever, the programme will also include a “Surprise Film,” which, according to an official press release “promises festivalgoers an exclusive chance to catch an audience hit from this year’s festival in Park City.” Additionally, the festival will be introducing and Audience Favourite award, giving festivalgoers the chance to vote for their favourite features. The winner will be announced at the close of the festival.

Robert Redford, President & Founder of Sundance Institute, said, “As we head into our fifth festival in London, we remain committed to introducing new American independent films to audiences around the world. Our success in the UK is a reflection of the enormous creativity of independent artists and the stories they tell, as well as the curious and adventurous audiences who have made us feel right at home in the heart of London.”

A full list of additional filmmakers and special guests expected to attend will be announced closer to the festival.
