37th Istanbul Film Festival

Matt Micucci will attend the 37th Istanbul Film Festival on April 6-17, 2018.

I will be travelling to Istanbul to cover this year’s edition of the Istanbul Film Festival (April 6-17) on FRED Film Radio. This will be my first time in Istanbul and Turkey.

The festival is described as the most comprehensive in the country. It features an international competition, provides a broad showcase for recent Turkish film productions, and represents a rewarding medium where Turkish and foreign filmmakers get together.

In addition, the festival draws interest to world classics, presenting retrospectives and curated sections included in its program, which comprises around 200 titles.

Over its 36 year history, the Istanbul Film Festival has presented audiences with over 5,000 films from all over the world and attracted a total audience number of almost 4 million. Notorious filmmakers, actors, and film industry figures have visited the festival in the past edition. These include Claudia Cardinale, Jeanne Moreau, Bernardo Bertolucci, Tsai Ming-liang, Abbas Kiarostami, Ken Russell, Michelangelo Antonioni, Marco Bellocchio, Béla Tarr, Pawel Pawlikowski, and Asghar Farhadi.

As mentioned, I will be covering the Istanbul Film Festival on FRED Film Radio. There, I will produce, as usual, podcast interviews with various invited guests and fellow attendees. I will also try to keep some type of online journal of my experience there. I will arrive in Istanbul on April 11 and leave on April 15.
